Olympique Marseille will try to finish the job

Olympique Marseille will try to finish the job, travelling to Braga to meet Sporting in a second leg from the 1/16-finals of the Europa League. After a 3-0 win in the first leg, the French team is almost surely in the 1/8-finals of the competition.

The first match at the Stade Velodrome didn’t go very well for the Portuguese team, which was totally outclassed by Marseille. Valere Germain scored two goals for the home team, while Florian Thauvin added one more. Sporting Braga tried to fight back, but their efforts were not enough against Rudi Garcia’s boys.

Now Sporting Braga do not have any other option, but to try their best in the rematch and at least quit the competition with some dignity. They are a good team – maybe the best Portuguese team after the big three (Porto, Benfica, Sporting Lisboa), but they were simply outclassed by Marseille.

In the same time Rudi Garcia and his boys know that even one goal in Braga would mean that they will end all of Braga’s hopes.

It’s been awhile since Olympique Marseille participated in an European final. The former champions of Europe are hungry for another run like this and maybe this time they will do it, who knows?

In the French Ligue 1 Olympique Marseille are currently third in the league standings, continuing the fight for a qualification for the Champions League. They have a record of 16 wins, 7 draws and 3 losses in the league. In their last five games Marseille are unbeaten – three wins and two draws.

Meanwhile Sporting Braga are 4th in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. Like we already said, they follow the big three of Portugal – Porto, Benfica and Sporting Lisboa. In their last five games they won four times and lost once.
